Police in the Shama Junction in the Shama District in the Western Region, have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly poisoning his two children to death.
The suspect, Ebenezer Eshun, is said to have poisoned the children after he picked them up to spend the weekend with him.
Narrating the ordeal to the media, the mother of the deceased kids, Comfort Arthur, hinted that they are currently separated as their marriage was facing challenges.
Comfort Arthur noted that the suspect normally picks the kids to spend the weekend with him.
According to Comfort, the Suspect threatened to poison the kids.
“He mostly picks the children to his house for the weekend. This weekend he came for them, he called me last night and told me to come back to his house but I denied. He then told me that he will poison himself and the children if I don’t come back because he does not want his surname in my family,” she narrated.
Comfort Arthur adds that they quickly informed the police and moved to his house at Shama Junction to save the children but it was too late.
“When we arrived at his house, he had locked the door. We kept knocking but he did not open it, his landlord opened the door and he came out with the children alive. We were on our way to the police station when I realized my children have been poisoned. They started vomiting, we rushed them to the hospital but they all died,” she added.
The suspect, who also took poison to end his life, is currently under arrest at the hospital whilst receiving treatment.
The children, a boy, and a girl are aged 3 and 8 years.
